So I made the decision to go ombre again, the last time being January 2012.
However since I was going ombre from blonde, this would make things a little more difficult.
Obviously, it wasn't as easy as buying DIY dip dye kit. But for anyone wanting to try this trend straight from blonde, it can be very simple :)
Firstly, I went out and bought myself a brown dye. I used Clairol Nice 'n Easy Colour Blend Foam in Dark Blonde [7] (£6.99 from Boots). Now I know Dark Blonde doesn't really sound like a good brown dye but I chose this colour because my hair was a very light blonde, and I didn't want my ombre to start to dark.
On the back of the box it's shows the colour result chart, which achieves a medium brown colour from dark blonde. So I took a chance and hoped that it which result in a light to medium brown on my blonde hair.
The pack includes a foam dye kit which is really simple to mix.
You simply add bottle 1 to bottle 2. Replace the cap on bottle 2, give it three good shakes and let it sit for 30 seconds. Then you screw the foamer cap on bottle 2 and it's ready to apply to your hair.
(Make sure to wear your gloves)
Okay, now here's how to create an ombre look on Blonde hair.
- Start applying the foam to your roots and the top layer of your hair, separating layers if necessary.(If your hair is all the same length with no layers or with long layers then apply the dye from to roots down to at least your earlobe, unless you are going for a smaller area of brown and a longer length of blonde. I applied my dye to just below my chin).
- Now apply foam the layers underneath, from the roots down to at least your earlobes.
- For a more blended look, you can either leave the previous sections to develop for 15 -20 mins, and apply another inch or two in length to the dye for another 5 mins development. Or you continue to apply another inch or two of dye by covering your gloved finger in the foam and running them through hair from above your ears down and through the length of your preferred colour blend section, and wait until the end of the developing time to rinse. Rinse as instructed.
So here are the results of my hair. Still a little fluffy as you can see!
I hope this helps any blondes that have been wanting to try the ombre/dip dye trend :)
